ARTESIA, N.M. The Rev. James Ivey Edwards, 68, of Artesia died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, in Lubbock, Texas.
James was born Nov. 17, 1943, in Bainbridge, Ga., to James Bruce Edwards and Von Biggs Edwards. He was raised in Amarillo, Texas, and graduated from Amarillo High School. He attended college at West Texas A&M University, the University of Texas at Austin and Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He married Donna Gentry in 1965 in Amarillo.
James was a professional artist, specializing in western and wildlife landscapes and bronze sculpture before entering full time ministry in the Methodist Church in 1990. He had recently served on the board of Habitat for Humanity and had been involved in Boy Scouts and Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization in Artesia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a newborn son; a 17-year-old son, Scott; and a brother, Ronald Perry Edwards.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Donna Edwards; two daughters, Andrea Hayward and husband Larry of Weatherford and Kelly OBrien and husband Corey of Dallas; five grandchildren, Jordan and Adalyn, both of Weatherford, and Caden, Conner and Kenna, all of Dallas; a brother, John Edwards and wife Donna of Collyville, Texas; an aunt, Fran Biggs of Stanton, Texas, Martha Gentry of Amarillo; and several nieces and nephews and other dear family members. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
